| | | Description: | | A long trunk, tough tusks and big ears are bold features of this lowly leaf-eater. Indian elephants look similar to African elephants but have shorter tusks and smaller ears. Although they do not stay in one spot for more than a few days, the habitat of this elephant varies but is often close to areas of scrub-forest. Indian elephants live in family groups that are composed of between two and ten elephants. As with the African elephants, the matriarch is in charge and ensures that all in the herd follow the social customs of the community. Experts believe that elephants have large brains. These mammals are able to imagine how others in the herd are feeling and remember information such as differentiating between individuals, recalling the experience of a drought, or knowing where the best feeding places are. | | | Features: | |

Better than advertised!Aug 27, 2010

As usual, Schleich exceeds my expectations with their wonderful models. This tiny elephant is much more heart-warming and adorable in person than the picture Amazon shows. It's ears and perked forward in curiousity and it seems to be taking a few steps on its stubby little legs. It's a perfect match for the adult Indian elephant female (also by Schleich) and when I stand them next to each other, than young calf can put his trunk against his mothers' and it makes an adorable picture.
This item is well-molded and well-painted. Durable enough for play, pretty enough for display.

By Sandra L. Simmons My daughter collects the Schleich animals and what she can't get at our local TSC I get here to finish off her collection. Very durable. Really takes some strength to pull off parts. Something she can keep and save for younger siblings or to pass on to her own kids. Very detailed and life-like.
