Stop Thomas in his tracks! Little engineers can turn Sir Topham's Hatt to activate the bumper and stop battery-powered trains. When Thomas gets another useful assignment, they can set him back into motion again with the push of a button.

Battery-operated Thomas features a working headlight, a reliable "4-wheel-drive" engine that keeps him rolling along for hours of fun and free-wheeling capabilities for non-battery play. Straight track pieces flip over to reveal a new road design for even more play options. Special traction rails give extra grip to battery-powered engines. 26-piece set includes one battery-powered, die-cast Thomas, an exclusive yellow caboose, 20 track pieces, a bridge, Sir Topham Hatt Track piece, a tree and a sign. Requires one "AA" battery (included).

3Good valueDec 28, 2008

This set is a good value for the price considering a battery power train alone costs around $[...] to start. The track is of good quality although does not fit easily with our existing other wooden track (from Ikea- great quality). Thomas comes with a caboose and they derailed at each corner as the turns were too tight. We tried to supplement with other track to widen the curves but they did not fit together well. After my 2 year old fit a couple of other cars making it four long, it seemed to do well. I guess the weight slowed down Thomas enough and held it down during turns. My son loves to turn the switch for Sir Topham Hatt on and off. Overall a good track and great starter set for anyone looking to start with Thomas. Just a few bugs though.

5great starter setJan 17, 2008

If you've decided to buy Thomas brand track this is a nice starter set, but you should also invest in some expansion sets like the Freddie Exp Set, the Cross & Switch Exp Pk, Conductors Figure 8 Exp Pk, male & female Track adapter pks. For Thomas trains, I bought most of mine on ebay new.

3Okay, but company needs to improve itNov 24, 2010

I really wanted a battery-powered train for my son, and at the time, Thomas and Friends train sets were the only ones I could find that were fairly priced. This train set is "okay". I read reviews that this falls off the track while going around corners and to buy a couple more train cars to prevent this from happening. I purchased two more train cars at the same time as purchasing this train set. Yes, it helps having about 3 cars being pulled to avoid the falling over around corners, BUT this also creates more weight for the engine to pull, thus creating a problem pulling all that weight up the hill to go over the bridge! The train set is also a lot smaller than I anticipated. The train engine and cars are about 2 inches long. The track itself is about 1.5 inches wide. I am a little disappointed in this product. I plan to look into GeoTrax train sets now- which were recommended to us by a friend.

My boys love playing with this train set! It is wood so I know it can withstand anything! It is not to big either, it fits perfect on their train table we got them! I would recommend this toy to anyone!

5Not my favorite Thomas set...Nov 21, 2010
By Awesome Mama
I bought this set mostly for the battery powered Thomas (as it really wasn't much more to buy the set over bp Thomas alone). Our biggest trouble with it were all of the small curves and the way the ascending track pieces worked with battery powered Thomas (they worked fine with most of the other engines except Mavis, but they would still catch occasionally), he would get stuck if you didn't run him toward the ascending piece's female end (even then, occasionally he would get stuck going up instead of getting stuck when going down), it didn't happen every time, but enough that it was a little frustrating. The little pieces posed a problem because it left a little more extra space between the tracks then the 6" curves, and occasionally it would catch a wheel. One of the small curves also broke the very first night when dismantling the track (a very small piece chipped off along the grain on the female end). In the end, this is a GREAT add-on to existing sets, especially if you have the switches and such, but I don't really like it as a stand-alone figure 8 set. I like the water tower and conductor shed figure 8 sets much, much better.
