Want to host a great evening for your friends?Jan 01, 2008
By Kelli Having never done ANYTHING like this before, I will say we were a bit skeptical of how the evening (and game) would turn out...but our Saturday night "Murder Mystery" event was SO much fun - we can't wait to throw another murder party! The Murder at Mardi Gras had so many twists and turns. It really was like an "adult" game of Clue that involves everyone. The scripts allow you to read your part(s) and then ask questions at the end of each chapter. My boyfriend and I invited three other couples, and we participated the entire time (no one, not even the host, knows who the murderer is beforehand). We found out after the game was over the "murderer" read on Page 1 that he/she had done it, and was instructed to play the game normally, trying not to reveal too much. The booklets sometimes suggest answers and questions, which also puts a spin on things. It was a lot of fun, and everyone really got into their parts. Although our Southern (Bayou?) accents weren't the best, we all had a blast reading through our parts and discussing who we suspected of being the murderer. Knowing the participants wouldn't enjoy Cajun-type food, I served pasta, salad, garlic bread, and an array of appetizers. I also had a chocolate fountain with a display of strawberries, brownies, marshmallows and pretzels for dipping. I gave each participant a "Mardi Gras" gift bag with a fun mask attached to each bag (yes, I go a little overboard!). We cannot wait to host the next Murder Party...which is "A Taste for Wine and Murder". Woohoo!

Loads of fun!May 19, 2010

I'm 19 and everyone that i invited was 17 to 24 years old and female and we had a blast! Here is some advice though, only invite people that will come and come on time, I gave everyone a full months notice before the party, and had a couple people tell me just four days before the day of the party that they forgot to ask off work. So i ended up having to scramble to get two new party guests. So again, invite reliable people. The game comes with a party planning booklet that has recipes in it but if your not loaded then you should just look up a chicken jumbalaya recipe, also google the recipe for Kool-aid pie (it will rock your world). The game took us about two hours to play and everyone was sad when it was over, so if you want to extend the southern mystery fun then try showing a movie like The Skeleton Key after you reveal the murderer. This game is also awesome because it comes with a bonus game, its a cd that goes in your computer and allows you to print everything you'll need for some more murder mystery fun ( the extra game is not mardi gras themed though, mine was a 1940s murder set in London ). I hope this helps :)

Good but beware...Jan 18, 2008

Good game, all pieces as described. However!!! Original game was for 8-10 players; the new version is for 8 players only and has no option for 2 more. We had 10 players so it was a little awkward. One acted as narrator but would have been better with 10 players.

Mystery party!May 27, 2009

This is very fun game. My friends came over with costumes on and finger food and this just set the mood.
The reasons why I haven't bought another of those games are: 1. you can only play it once. Once you solve the mystery, all the fun is gone
2. you need the EXACT number of players. We were short by one person, so someone had to play two characters and this definitely makes the game less fun
3. you need friends who kind of like to act. this is not for everyone.
